The World’s End – Teaser Trailer

At long, long last we get a look at The World’s End, Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright’s final film in their ‘Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy’ (also known as ‘The Blood and Ice Cream trilogy’). The story sees 5 friends reuniting to take part in a pub crawl back in their hometown, an epic night of drinking that will see them finish at ‘The World’s End’ pub. But once they get to the town things are a lot stranger than before and the people seem to have changed for the very, very worse. Expect action, laughs and plenty of pints:

Like Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, this too seems to focus on a different sort of genre, this time sci-fi. There’s a sort of Invasion of the Body Snatchers feeling to it which is a direction I hadn’t expected them to take, but seeing the trailer I’m glad they did. The cast, as in any of Edgar Wright’s films, is again brilliant. Of course we have the usual suspects of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost who hopefully will be continuing the bromance between their characters which we’ve seen in their previous films. It’s also interesting to see that they seem to have reversed roles for this one, this time Pegg playing the brash, outlandish one and Frost the straight-laced character when usually it’s the other way around. And making up the rest of the excellent main cast there’s Martin Freeman, Eddie Marsan and the AMAZING Paddy Considine. Colour me excited for THAT ensemble…

The only concern I have with The World’s End is the fact that its release date has been moved forward. Presumably this is so that it falls more in the middle of the summer holidays when there is a bigger chance of more people seeing it, which is sound logic. But I’m worried that this might put tighter time restraints on perfecting something that will surely be a great film. Here’s hoping Wright and Pegg have left themselves enough time to make sure the film is superb, and more importantly brilliantly funny, in time for the release date. Prove me wrong guys…
