This Is the End – new trailer for the most meta film ever…

Get ready to see the first full trailer for one of the most meta films of all time. And be warned – there be swearing up ahead:

First of all, going from the evidence in this trailer, the main cast of James Franco, Seth Rogen, Danny McBride, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel and Craig Robinson looks like a comedy ensemble made in heaven. And the list of endless cameos already seem to be some of the best of all time (Michael Cera, Emma Watson, Jason Segel, Aziz Ansari, Mindy Kaling, Rihanna and many, many, MANY more not seen here).

This Is the End is written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (who also both direct) for which they expanded on an idea they used for a short film they made in 2007 called Jay and Seth Versus the Apocalypse, in which Rogen and Jay Baruchel tried to survive the end of the world by hiding indoors. This Is the End is the feature film version of this idea, only on a larger scale and with bigger star power.

Rogen and Goldberg have already proven their comedy writing abilities, having written the excellent Superbad and Pineapple Express together. I have faith in them that they have been able to recreate the laughs from those films with This Is the End as well. Anyway, there’s surely going to be plenty of laughs to be had from watching actors playing more outlandish versions of themselves (although I’d like to secretly think that that’s what Micheal Cera is like in real life when he’s drunk…). It already has two of the best quotable lines EVER as well (“Fuck your house Franco!” and “Hermione just stole all of our shit”). I know I’ll be quoting them anyway.

Hopefully this combo of excellent cast, outrageous premise and big laughs will make for one of the best comedies in a long time. And hopefully it won’t be too meta for it’s own good and end up disappearing up itself…
