Oscar Nominations 2012

Well, the Oscar nominations have just been announced. Hmm is all I can say…

The thing I’m most happy about is Gary Oldman finally getting a nomination for Best Actor for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (although Jean Dujardin is nominated for The Artist too and I wouldn’t be against him winning either. But come on: Mr Oldman has been waiting far too long for the recognition he deserves).

One thing I’m very annoyed about (although I did predict would happen anyway) is the lack of any noms for We Need To Talk About Kevin, especially for Tilda Swinton as Best Actress (I had hoped the director Lynne Ramsay might have been up for best director as well but who was I kidding…a woman won a few years ago so we can’t POSSIBLY have any women directors nominated this year, can we? That’s sarcasm by the way). And also: nothing for Drive? Shame? What the hell Oscar? – I genuinely thought Michael Fassbender and Ryan Gosling would at LEAST be up for Best Actor. It’s just been announced that Drive isn’t up for best score either: crazy.

And a nomination for War Horse for Best Picture?!? – we all knew it would happen but I just hoped the Academy would see sense for once and not nominate another film just coz it’s about war and a pretty ickle horsey. I’m sorry but it’s a terrible film and laugh out loud stupid at times. Just NO.

Anyway, rant over. Some very glaring omissions this year but at least there are some nominations that make up for it, mostly for The Artist which will hopefully win Best Picture and Best Director for Michel Hazanavicius. And if there’s any justice in the world Gary Oldman will FINALLY win that Best Actor Oscar too.
